Commencing the Countdown

T-minus 32 hours until the 2014 New Years Rock N Shot Comedy Show.  By now, most of you already know about this event.  But, in case you don't know, please read the previous post on the LBB blog.  Anyway, The Parole Board is putting the finishing touches on a few final items as we gear up for another great party to welcome in the new year.

We hope to see all of you at Trees tomorrow night.  We have some really great comedians and musicians lined up.  The booze will flow like wine.  The women will instincively flock to the event like the salmon of Capistrano.  Good times for all shall be had.  Don't miss out, or you'll hear all the great stories about what you missed and you'll end up counting down the days until 2015.

It's That Time Again

So, here we are, in the middle of another holiday season.  And you know what that means, Christmas music playing everywhere you go, spending time with the in-laws, last minute gift buying for people you really don't give a shit about, lying to our children about an overweight man that breaks into our homes and eats our pastries, and of course, welcoming in the new year.

Unfortunately, most of the INMATES have to work on New Year's Eve.  While millions of daywalkers raise their glasses and toast to all the possibilities that lie ahead, the INMATES, much like Rudolph, don't get to partake in those reindeer games.  Sure, you might have a shot, or two, or three; but you are still working and watching others actually having fun.

But, in case you are new to Life Behind Bars, The Parole Board came up with a way to solve this yearly dilemma.  Each year, on January 1, we rewind the clocks and give the INMATES their own New Year's Eve party.  This year, we will be welcoming in 2014 at Trees in Dallas, Texas. The past two years, our new year's parties were casino theme events. This year, we are changing it up a little bit

In case you missed out on the 2011 Rock N Shot Comedy Show, let me explain the concept.  Here's the recipe:
  • 1 stage;
  • 3 parts extremely funny comedians;
  • 3 parts talented musical acts;
  • 1 DJ;
  • Hundreds of INMATES; and
  • An endless supply of booze.
When you mix all those together; voilĂ , you have the Rock N Shot Comedy Show.   The comedians and the musical acts alternate performances throughout the evening.  Drink prices will be extremely cheap thanks to the owners of Trees, Clint and Whitney Barlow (they are huge LBB supporters and always welcome INMATES in their establishment).  As midnight approaches, we will countdown from 10 to 1 and just like a 13 year old boy, the ball will drop.

You can buy tickets in advance on our website - www.lifebehindbars.net/  Tickets purchased by December 25, 2013 are $25 per person and $40 a couple.  Tickets purchased after December 25, 2013 are $30 per person and $50 per couple.

We've also contacted local hotels and made arrangements for reduced room prices that night.  Please contact Hotel Indigo (1933 Main Street, Dallas, Texas 75201) or Hyatt House Dallas (2914 Harry Hines Boulevard, Dallas, Texas 75201) for more information.  And to ensure that all INMATES riot responsibly, we have arranged for transportation to and from the hotels (more details on this will be announced closer to the event).

So, gather up your friends and mark your calendar. Doors open at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 1, 2014. You can dress to impress or dress like a mess. Either way is cool with us.

Developments

It's been another busy week for LBB.  Here are the latest developments:

Our web designer has a list of all the items that need to be implemented into the website.  He is taking care of these things I am hopefully that they will be done within a week.  Which means we could be looking at an official launch date at the start of February.  #fingerscrossed

We are in negotiations with a major company based in Dallas regarding the next event - which is going to be an INMATE appreciate event, just a little way for us to say thanks to all the INMATES for your support.  We have most of the details locked down and the premise is a Run Way Rock Show.  Bands, live models, good times.  The venue is most likely going to be Palladium and it will occur on Monday, March 5, 2012.  There will be no cover to attend and, if things go right in our negotiations, there will be no charge for beverages!

I have a phone call with a liquor company rep tomorrow that has been trying to get in touch with us for sometime now.  I don't really know what the call is about, other than this rep wants to talk about pairing up with LBB in 2012.  I haven't heard of this particular company before, they are new (I think).  Their main product is a rum that is supposedly really good.  I love rum - drinking it makes me feel like a fucking pirate.  If we lock down a deal with this company, I am going to ask them for a parrot and a peg leg.

Also, the liquor company that we submitted our video to absolutely loved what they saw.  We have a meeting next week with a representative of the company to discuss plans for the Rock N Shot Comedy Tour.  They want to start working on a show in Chicago immediately.  We are also going to discuss what the future holds for LBB and this company.  I think good things are on the horizon.

And finally, in case you missed it, LBB hit the 3,000 member mark this week.  That's right, we are now over 3,000 INMATES strong.

That is all my friends.

2012 Update

The Parole Board just received an update on the video we submitted to a major liquor company in hopes of obtaining funding for 2012.  The first wave of people at the company loved the video and the idea of the Rock N Shot Comedy Tour.  One of the managers in the company wants to have the comedy tour in several cities beginning early this year.  To steal a line from Borat, "Great Success!"

The next step is the video and accompanying informational sheet will be presented to the liquor company's brand team for their feedback.  Assuming that goes well, we could very well be planning the tour in no time at all.  Definitely a big step towards where we want LBB to go.

Also, we have been speaking with a large Dallas company about combining forces in 2012.  I don't have all the details to release just yet, but we are trying to negotiate an INMATE appreciate event, hopefully to occur by March.  This could be a huge event and it would serve as a way to say thank you to the INMATES for making LBB what it is, and more importantly, what it will become.

For now, that's all the information that I have.  As things develop, I will keep everyone updated.

Rock N Shot Comedy Tour

Just got off the phone with The Warden.  Another hour plus phone conversation.  I talk more on the phone to The Warden and The Lifer than anyone else, even my girlfriend.  Anyway, The Warden is hard at work right now doing his graphic design thing.  LBB has been speaking to a few different liquor companies recently about sponsorship.  One of the companies would like us to create a short video that conveys our message and our goals.  This video will be played for the decision makers of said liquor company in hopes of LBB receiving some financial backing in 2012.

One of the big goals The Parole Board has for the upcoming year is to take the Rock N Shot Comedy Show nationwide, thus becoming the Rock N Shot Comedy Tour.  We already have INMATES in numerous cities wells that are willing to help facilitate this.  The plan is to take one band and comedian from Dallas on the road with us and fill the other spots with local talent from each city well.  The only obstacle standing in our way is money.  And that's where we turn to the sponsors.

The deadline for the video is right around the corner.  Thus far, negotiations with this liquor company have been painless.  I hope the trend continues.  Either way, we will know sometime in January whether or not this particular company will be part of the tour.

For now, we just need to focus on delivering a quality video.  Thankfully The Warden is a creative genius when it comes to visual arts because we have a lot riding on this.  If The Lifer and I were forced to create the video on our own, it would have the production quality comparable to that of the music videos my six year old daughter makes with her Fisher Price camcorder.
